Finding A Balance with Technology

Richland has recently developed a BYOD program, and invested in iPads for our students because we recognize that technology is a powerful learning tool.  In saying that, our approach to technology requires us to be thoughtful and purposeful – what can we learn through technology that is not possible through other methods?  How can we leverage these tools to enhance the learning experiences of our students? Ultimately, it’s about striking a balance.  There is still a place for pen and paper alongside tablets and interactive whiteboards in the classroom. Here is a link to a favourite blog of ours, MindShift,  about how high-tech meets low-tech in a Well-Rounded Classroom. As learning professionals we recognize the benefits of a vast array of tools and materials available to us and our students – that has always been true.  By asking WHY a tool or resource contributes to learning, we recognize the value in it.  We keep asking why.
