Middle School (Grades 7 - 8)

The MYP (Middle Years Programme) is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. It comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents.

IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

The MYP comprises eight subject groups:
- Language acquisition
- Language and literature
- Individuals and societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- Arts
- Physical and health education
- Design
In the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), students in Grade 9 begin earning credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while continuing to learn within the MYP framework. This integrated approach allows students to benefit from the inquiry-based, interdisciplinary learning of the MYP while meeting Ontario curriculum expectations. As a result, students develop strong critical thinking, global awareness, and self-management skills, all while staying on track for their OSSD. This balance provides both academic rigour and flexibility, supporting a smooth transition into senior school and future pathways.
The MYP provides a holistic approach to education through the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills framework. Students explicitly develop thinking, self-management, social, research, and communication skills, enabling them to become effective, independent learners. Our students learn how to learn.
Students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and make connections between what they learn and the world around them, building both confidence and independence along the way.
The MYP experience includes:
Interdisciplinary learning
In the Middle Years Programme (MYP), interdisciplinary learning supports students to understand bodies of knowledge from two or more disciplines or subject groups, in order to integrate them and create new understanding.
Community Project (Grade 8)
The community project focuses on community and service, encouraging students to explore their rights and responsibilities to implement service as action in the community. The community project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. As a consolidation of learning, the community project engages in a sustained, in-depth inquiry leading to service as action in the community. The community project may be completed individually or by groups of a maximum of three students.
Personal Project (Grade 10)
MYP students in their final year explore an area of personal interest over an extended period. It provides them the opportunity to consolidate their learning and develop important skills they’ll need in both further education and life beyond the classroom. It also helps them develop confidence to become principled, lifelong learners.
