Richland Faculty’s Collaborative Action Research Project

Inquiring Minds is very excited to share the current undertaking of Richland Academy with two other schools in a Collaborative Action Research Project. A group of Richland Faculty members are working in conjunction with Research Supervisors, Dr. Diane Kashin and Ms. Louise Jupp of Seneca College, on this project. The premise of the project is to determine the viability of collecting research through social media, and subsequently sharing the information collected through social media, for the purposes of professional learning and resource building.

The process will take approximately nine months, beginning with each participant developing a unique and thoughtful research question related to teaching and learning communities, with the support of the Research Supervisors. Over the course of the following months, each participant will engage social media to collect information and seek resources to support their topic. Throughout this process the participants will be guided by the question, “…through the use of new technologies, how can I share this new knowledge and use it in practice?” To conclude the project, participants will share their new knowledge and findings of how they were able to apply theory to practice through Documentation; via social media platforms such as postings, blogs, boards, videos and photography.

“The medium is the message. This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium – that is, of any extension of ourselves – result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves, or by any new technology.” – Marshall McLuhan

Richland is excited to be part of this Tri-school Research Project, and will continue to share the commitment to ongoing Research and Professional Development of our Faculty and Staff through Inquiring Minds.
