Haiti’s Untold Story

At Richland Academy, we are currently working toward our goal of Adopting-a-Village in Manac, Haiti through Free The Children’s “Adopt-a-Village” program. Since the devastating earthquake struck Haiti in January 2010, Free The Children has implemented a successful long-term development and rehabilitation strategy through this program, which helps people in less fortunate countries, such as Haiti, receive the means they need to survive, including water, health, alternative income and education.

Following the two-year anniversary of the earthquake, Free The Children Co-founders, Craig and Marc Kielburger prepared an article on Haiti’s Untold Story:

On the earthquake’s second anniversary, the media did their minimum due diligence. They reported on the massive camps that still exist around Port-au-Prince, on the slow progress in rebuilding, and on aid dollars spent and yet to be delivered. They did not report on the hundreds of thousands of Haitians like the Metellus family who remain scattered across Haiti’s rural landscape – the forgotten displaced people.
