Emergent Curriculum in Performing Arts

In Performing Arts this term, there will be a school wide focus on collaborative script writing through improvisation in preparations of our school’s 10th anniversary Spring Musical (stay tuned for more exciting details as the term progresses).
The Grade 4 class has begun improvising through a series of games and workshops such as What is it?: A game where students are required to use their imaginations and turn a given object into a prop in a made up scene on the spot!  They have also worked in collaborative improvisation teams to create scenes using the articles of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through this, the students are learning to; work together, be supportive audience members, think on their feet, lose their inhabitations, and about the universal rights of children around the world. The last point is important for the Richland community in particular, as we embarked on our journey towards becoming the very first Rights Respecting School in the GTA with UNICEF in December 2012.
Continue to follow Inquiring Minds and see how this dynamic project unfolds throughout the Richland community.
