Discovering Reggio

My passion to learn and understand at a deeper level how the Reggio Philosophy positively influences and shapes a child’s life at a social/emotional and cognitive level, has become a personal goal of mine as an educator.  The past six years I have been actively unpacking the Reggio Principles and continuously applying theory to practice.  Just as I think I have mastered a concept, I soon discover that there is so much more to learn to enrich my work as an educator and administrator.  I am completely in awe of the brilliance of the man behind the philosophy….Loris Malaguzzi, who has left us his legacy to carry forth.  I believe if he were alive today, that he would be most proud of how his work continues to be embraced by educators around the world.

Below is an essay written by Suzanne Axelsson, a passionate and dedicated preschool teacher from Stockholm, Sweden.  It is a deep, engaging and intelligent read about Loris Malaguzzi and the teaching philosophy that is transforming our learning at Richland.

Also recommended is the book entitled, Introducing Malaguzzi by Sandra Smidt.
