Provocation: Imagine the life of the objects you are using today.
To apply and consolidate their knowledge, students in Grades 5&6 traced the “life” of an object. Meaning they traced all the energy and resources that went into getting the object to Ms. Bei’s home; this is it’s carbon footprint. From the perspective of the curriculum, the link is the analysis of the long-term impacts on society and the environment of human uses of energy and natural resources.
What did you learn from this experience?

“Students were able to synthesize and apply their knowledge through this activity. Most importantly, they were able to come to a new understanding about the way we live, through their own investigations. Wow! They must have gathered a lot of information! Finding where their object came from and the transportation to get to the the school which is pretty awesome. 🙂
