Activities Specific to Vocabulary Building using Gestures.

Double verb construction/preposition-plus-infinitive targeted gesture teaching and reviewDuring this activity, we target the practice of the infinitive form, sometimes in contrast with the third-person singular form. It helps attune students’ ears to the correct sound of the ending of the infinitive (er,ir/e,oir/e and re), and helps them become aware of which verbs or other vocabulary signal requires this additional ending to the verb. When introducing the motion of the verb plus infinitive, for example, I might provide an alternative such as:

  • Est-ce qu’on dit: “je veux écoute” ou “je veux écouter”? or
  • Est-ce qu’on dit: “il doit chosit” ou “ il doit choisir”?
