Continuing their investigation of apples, the PK students were asked this question, “Why are apples different colours?”  Their responses were intriguing to say the least.

“They go in the freezer and melt and go different colours.”
“Farmers put different colours on them.”
“Apples make different kinds of colour.”
“Horses like different kinds of colours.”
“Apples go in the freezer and they go different colours.”

“Science is part of our daily lives, and every day is filled with science possibilities.”
(Teaching Young Children, 2009)

The students interacted with their apples in many ways, including weight and measurement.

“I think this apple is the heaviest…because it is big and heavy.”
“It is lighter when it is up in the sky.”
“My apple is the big one and this is the baby apple.”

They even painted with the apples, and of course ate them, to compare the taste!
