Experience Life as a Student

Last week, our Grade Four class invited parents into our class to share the experience of life as a student. Part of a successful learning environment involves active engagement for both teacher and students. As a Reggio Inspired school we strive to bring in the key principles of this philosophy, one of open and reciprocal learner from teacher and student. As an International Baccalaureate school we combine the philosophy of Reggio with the curriculum framework of IB. For our first theme, Sharing the Planet the focus for success was that of building communication skills, open-minded, thinking and caring relationships with each other. Setting up this type of environment builds success that we hope will filter into our entire school year.

For our Sharing of Learning with parents, students embraced the idea of leading a learning experience that they themselves had taken part in and wanted their parents to experience this as well. For this, the students become the teachers. We know that all students are individuals and all have their own strengths and challenges. What we loved about watching this unfold, was not that everyone participated in the same way, but that all the students participated in their own way, with each taking different roles and responsibilities.

Thank you Grade Fours for a successful Sharing of Learning. Thank you parents for taking on this learning challenge with an open heart.
