Our JK students took an interest in observing and exploring the Calla Lilly. A discussion about the shapes of the pot, the leaves, the flowers and the soil became their first focus of interest, so that they were able to capture the ‘real’ colours and beauty of the Calla Lilly.
Here the four water colours of the Calla Lilly are seen at the different stages of detail work. One of the paintings has been given a yellow hue to the background and a few others have been detailed with the black ‘curly cues’ to the pots.
Observations of nature, through the medium of water colour provide “a natural vehicle through which children express their interpretation of our world.”
