Lest we forget

Although Remembrance Day was honoured with perhaps less fanfare and without an assembly or speakers, the students continued this year to make poppies with messages of thankfulness for the sacrifices made by the soldiers on our behalf. In class , they watched virtual messages and reflected on those contributions.

Our minute of silence was observed with solemnity and the Last Post was as powerful as ever with its reverberating power of sound and empathy. In this year of Covid-19, we appreciate even more the discipline, the courage, the strength and the power of friends and comrades. The sacrifices and challenges faced by all people during times of conflict and war, including women and children, nurses, front line workers, soldiers, medical doctors, poets, artists, animals, factory workers, innovators, and so many many more, were necessary then as they are today. They faced those challenges and were rewarded with a world more appreciative of peace and prosperity. We can all take inspiration from our past and know that we can make it through these difficult times.

Thank you to all the veterans for their commitment to peace and for the sacrifices they made to achieve this. The world stands united on this day – on the 11th hour, the 11th day, the 11th month – and wishes you health, safety, and love.
