Education in the Arts

At Richland Academy, the arts are regarded as an instrument of expression and considered an important component of the ‘Hundred Languages of Children.’ Students engage in active learning programs that instil confidence in them, allow them to express themselves and take risks, learn collaboration and develop valuable life skills.

“Education in the arts is essential to students’ intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth and well-being. The music curriculum is intended to help students develop an understanding and appreciation of music, as well as the ability to create and perform it, so that they will be able to find in music a lifelong source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction. Emphasis should be placed on encouraging students to become active participants in composing music, exploring ideas through music, responding to music, and performing. An interesting and challenging program in their music not only develops practical artistic skills but also enables students to sharpen their ability to reason, to think critically, and to explore their emotional responses to the music.” ~The Ontario Ministry of Education
