LEGO Food Challenge: Big Ideas, Tiny Bricks!

Our Grade 1 students had a fun and creative challenge! They had to build their favourite food or dessert out of LEGO… with no instructions!

To help them with the challenge, we used something called the Engineering Design Cycle. It’s a way to help solve problems, step by step:

  1. Ask – What food/dessert do I want to make?
  2. Imagine – What will it look like? What LEGO pieces can I use?
  3. Plan – Draw or think about how I will build it.
  4. Create – Build it using LEGO!
  5. Test – Does it look like the food? Is it strong? What can I fix?
  6. Improve – Make changes to make it better.
  7. Present – Show and tell the class about what you made and how you made it.

The grade 1’s created amazing designs like cookies, cupcakes, sushi, and ice cream cones! They used problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork to bring their ideas to life. Even when something didn’t work at first, like not being able to find a specific lego block, they kept trying and testing until they were happy with the final result.
At the end, everyone shared their LEGO design with the class. They explained what they made, how they made it, and what changes they had to make.
I’m so proud of our Grade 1s for working like real engineers! Planning, building, testing, and sharing their awesome creations!
