The energy was HIGH with excitement and enthusiasm when Truth Is, a nationally and internationally recognized slam poet, shared some of her poems with our Grade 5/6 students in a way that enraptured the children. It was not only her powerful words, but the way in which she delivered them – the variance in volume, changes of speed, different diction and pedestal pauses that really made them come to life. The children were encouraged children to be themselves and to celebrate each others’ differences publicly and vocally. We look forward to a writing workshop with Truth Is in the near future!
